Snow Control in Milton

by Domenic & Jody Manchisi

It can be very frustrating when we see a thick coating of snow on our streets after a blizzard or snow storm. Or even worse when the car parked out front is “plowed’ in. To prevent this issue do not park on Milton streets longer than 3 hours. If the street is getting plowed while parked, the by-law is not in effect; the vehicle could be ticketed or towed at owner’s expense! The plow system this winter works like this; there is more than 1,500 lane km of Regional & Town roads. Snow plowing starts when there is 2 cm of snow on the ground, the roads are in a list of priority; Regional roads, arterial and collector roads, then urban and rural residential roads.

  • Regional, arterial, and collector roads should be cleared within 2-12 hours after a storm.
  • Rural collector and industrial roads cleared in 5-16 hours.
  • Urban and rural residential can take from 8-24 hours to sand or plow to a snow packed surface.
  • Sidewalks & pathways for school, and transit routes are also in a list of priority, and they will get cleared after 5 cm of snow.

For Milton citizens who live on residential streets be prepared this winter, have snow or all season tires on, because it could get slippery!

Help Conserve Water in Halton!

by Domenic & Jody Manchisi

Want to save money on that water bill? Why not collect water we don’t have to pay for! Rain Barrels will help buy collecting rain water and store it for you. When you need to water those flowers or the vegetable garden don’t go to the hose go to the Rain Barrel! Milton is hosting the Rain Barrel sale at the Milton GO Station Parking Lot this Saturday May 28th at 8am-12pm. To purchase a Rain Barrel costs $42.00 (cash only), not bad when we are going to be saving on the water bill! If you can’t make it this weekend there is another sale next Saturday June 4th 8am-12pm at Robert C. Austin Operations Centre in Georgetown. Limit one per household also must bring Driver’s Licence or other proof that you live in the Halton Region. Let’s work together as a community to save money and conserve water!

It’s Back Everybody... The Milton Farmer’s Market!

by Domenic & Jody Manchisi

All the Milton Citizens have waited a long winter for the classic Farmer’s Market to come back. Thankfully it has started a couple weekends ago. The almost 40 year old market starts every Saturday at 7am-12pm, from May 14th-Oct 8th 2011 right downtown Milton starting at the Prudential Town Centre Real Estate office at Main and Martin St. We are lucky to have an opportunity to collect our fresh produce, meats, cheeses, herbs, honey, and much more for a reasonable bulk price. It is more personal and fun to be able to grocery shop outdoors rather than a grocery store! Also don’t forget to stop by the bacon on a bun cart! Great snack to grab after shopping all morning. Hope to see you all there this Saturday!!

Milton Rocks.. SUMMER KICK OFF!!

Milton Rocks.. SUMMER KICK OFF!!

On June 11th 2011, the Milton Fairgrounds will be hosting the first fundraising concert for the Milton District Hospital. Multiple entertainers have taken the time out of their schedules to come join us in helps to raise money to make our hospital better than ever. Since Milton is the fastest growing community in Canada, the citizens of our town appreciate all the contributions other communities are making; for example the vendors, sponsors, entertainers, and exhibitors. It should be a great day to enjoy music, food, family, and friends. To purchase tickets go to either of these locations; Kelsey’s Restaurant in Milton, The Boarding Hut on Main St, Nude Buddha on Bronte St, Milton District Hospital (Foundation Office), and The Milton Mall ever Saturday between 12pm-4pm. Also www.miltonrocks.com website offers a link to purchase tickets online at www.ticketscene.ca, as well as directions and the entertainment line up. I don’t know about you but I can’t wait to enjoy this fantastic day in hopes to make our Milton District Hospital more sufficient for the Town Of Milton.

Secrets of a Perfect Paint Job

by Domenic & Jody Manchisi

1. Pick your paint type - Water-soluble latex or oil paint.

2. Choose your sheen - Flat or glossy.

3. Start with good tools - Tapered brushes, nylon & polyester or natural bristles.

4. Invest in quality - Quality primers will adhere to glossy painted or stained surfaces without sanding, ultimately saving you time and money.

5. Prep - Clear room, cover floors & vacuum up all dust.

6. Cut in- Use angled brush to paint border.

7. Learn to lay off - After rolling a section, make long vertical strokes up the full length of wall.

8. Score carefully- Pull off masking the same day you paint, but first run a putty knife angle along edge.

Outlet Mall Coming to Milton!

by Domenic & Jody Manchisi

RioCan has one of Canada’s largest portfolios of shopping centres and is continuing their success by bringing a Tanger Outlet Factory to Halton Hills. Located in Milton off of Highway 401 at the James Snow Exit, will be home to the 35 acre Tanger Outlet Centre. This is the first ever Tanger Outlet Shopping Centre in Canada. Since Halton Hills is one of the fastest growing communities in Ontario it would make sense for the consumers to have an opportunity to purchase designer brands and labels from a variety of merchandisers. Not only is this a fantastic addition to the Halton Hills community, this will benefit the surrounding towns and cities such as; Acton, Georgetown, Brampton, and Mississauga. The project’s estimated date of completion should be April 2013, when finished the Tanger Outlet Factory should be as large as 350,000 square feet. As a member of the Halton Community I cannot wait for this new addition to be completed. I predict this will benefit our town and increase our property values.
